April 2026 Safe Campus Update

April 9, 2026

First things first

Forget about the snow, warmer weather is ahead! Whether you’re out traveling, studying or soaking up the sun, know that the Department of Public Safety (DPS) has your safety top of mind. The University of Minnesota Police Department will continue its safety efforts in Dinkytown through the end of the semester.

Free breakfast: Chat with members of DPS — and enjoy donuts and coffee — at Cops and Coffee, April 14–16, 8–9:30 a.m. across campus

Two-stepping to Spring Jam™

Mark your calendars for free music and games at Spring Jam™ on April 25, 4–10 p.m. at Coffman Memorial Union.

  • The festival will happen rain or shine. Check the weather and dress accordingly to party all night long.
  • Stay hydrated, take breaks and enjoy some noms to keep your body fueled.

 A culture against sexual assault

It’s on all of us to create a strong culture of consent and advocacy to build a campus where everyone feels safe, respected and supported. Join the Aurora Center for a month of campus events dedicated to making survivors of sexual violence feel seen and heard during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

FYI: There are many options for reporting incidents of assault, violence and harassment and advocates from the Aurora Center are available to support you throughout the entire process.

Adding to your safety toolkit

Learn how to safely and properly administer naloxone when someone is experiencing an overdose with training presented by UMNPrepared, Boynton Health and the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation.

  • When: April 29th, 9:30–11 a.m.
  • Where: Ruttan Hall B35

More information, including the registration link, is available on the Health Emergency Response Office website.

Did you know? Overdose emergency response kits containing free nasal naloxone are located throughout campus

Safety roundup: Bikes, scooters and skateboards, oh my!
