March 2026 Safe Campus Update
March 5, 2026
First things first
Spring has sprung, but a new season doesn’t eliminate old worries. Visit the new basic needs directory for on- and off-campus resources from food and personal care to course materials and technology at low or no cost.
On that note: The Nutritious U Food Pantry is open weekly from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and now has a new location in Coffman Memorial Union room B60, next to the Whole Music Club. Check their website for specific operational days and additional locations.
Ride in style
A new year brings a new change to Gopher Chauffeur. Riders should request a pickup using the ride request webpage instead of the TransLoc app. Just enter your University login, where you’re at and where you’re going to be on your way.
For your information: Rides are available from 8 p.m.–1 a.m., seven days a week during the school year, and serve the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses.
Your campus, your story
Sharing your campus experience can make a difference at the U. Complete the Campus Climate Survey (check your email for the link) by March 31.
The survey is completely confidential, takes around 15 minutes to finish and will help make our campus a more welcoming and inclusive place for all.
No cheap date
Winter cuddles may be coming to an end, but whatever relationship you’re nurturing this semester should be based on consent and mutual respect. That’s truly #couplegoals.
- Consensual fun: Schedule a trip to Boynton Health for free safer sex supplies, from protection to contraception and even STI testing.
- Love is…: Visit the Aurora Center to learn about how to identify relationship violence and get support.
P.S. The Aurora Center is hosting a free self-defense workshop exploring self-defense as self-care, empowerment and advocacy. Pencil it in for April 7, 5–7:30 p.m. in RecWell’s Beacon Room.
Safety roundup: On island time
Spring break should feel freeing — not frightening. A little preparation and looking out for one another go a long way.
- If you’re traveling, share your itinerary with a parent, roommate or trusted friend.
- No matter where you are, if something feels off physically or emotionally, trust that instinct and get help.
- If you’re planning to drink, plan a safe ride, stick with friends and watch your drink.
- Campuses can feel different over break. So if you’re staying put, continue your good habits like locking doors, not propping entrances and trusting your instincts in emptier spaces.
- Structure helps the week feel intentional rather than isolating. Take care of yourself by visiting RecWell, going for a walk or connecting with friends.
